The London Boroughs

London is not so much a city, as the world's biggest village.
- G. K. Chesterton

Or if not a village, then 33 small cities, each with their own governments, schools, centres, suburbs, and proud sense of identity and history. Each borough has a member of parliament who votes in the national government, and a local council that collects taxes and provides essential services. But the boroughs are about far more than politics. Ask a Londoner where they live, and nine times out of ten they will not say 'London', but 'Croydon', 'Islington', 'Kensington' or 'Greenwich'.
